Cuco,

I offered Junior, Ismael's son, $500 dollars when I was in PR on vacation. At the time he said only Monchito, who left it for Ismael to change the heads in 1964, could claim it for the original ticket price of $40 dollars. I think Monchito passed not long ago. By the way, that photo was taken by me that day I was there. Here are the photos I took that day, the one of the bongo' and one with me, Junior and Ismael's widow. Mulato, ese bongo' esta cabron and is part of Latin music history, at the time Monchito used to play bongo' with Tito Rodriguez.

I also had the Ismael nuevo made by his nephew, but shipped back to Puerto Rico.

B0ng0 I advice you some time back to buy a set of Mopercs or a set of Timbas Del Valle but you found them a bit expensive so there are quality Bongos out there you just need some cash.

Cuco the Timbas Ismael is a great add to your collection. Ismael Timbas son Junior works now for a store call Pro Music as their percussion expert. They sell Meinl and other brands.

viejo Cuco,
my honest opinion of why i don't buy a set of bongos from you,

1) the simple fact that the bongos are used
2) "all sales are final"

i understand that your bongos are rare & vintage, but $400+ for a set of second hand bongos that are sold "as is", i'd rather pay half of that for a new set of HR el piernas or 3A......
thats just my 2cents...and no offense to your knowledge of the instruments & your impressive collection..

I don't usually do this so I am sorry for intervening. But your reasoning is not good.
"rare & vintage" Bongos of course there are going to be "used" otherwise they will be new Bongos.
"all sales are final" Are you afraid you might have to "repair something" again if they are "vintage" they are "old" and they may have or they could have problems in the future. If you want to purchase vintage instruments you should know what comes along with it.

Sure you can buy top of the line LP, Meinl, or Toca with their "factory warranty" "new strong hardware" "satisfaction guaranteed" etc. But of course they are not "vintage", any top of the line Bongos of these companies mentioned will cost you around $300. $400+ is not bad at all.

You can get "BRAND NEW" SOS, or Ritmo Bongos for more than $400, so I do not know why you will think Bongos of this kind will cost you less than that.

Just my 2 cents brother.

Take care
