Both are good drums Gon bops all depend were you live if you live in north east of country they will crack under the plastic coat they have.Meinl is better made for north east regions.If look to save money I have a few up for sale.check bongos for sale.

Pan con Queso for you Tomas from Cuco

The Meinls are solid drums but you can't pivot that freeride hardware to make them comfortable on your legs, I have a great sounding set at the moment, quality skins etc but for that reason alone I never play them. Wouldn't be an issue if used on a stand of course but I never play like that.

I have a friend who own a set of the woodcraft but made in Germany. I suggested him to eliminate the free ride and have an Artisan to make a wood block shaped to fit between the shells. Meinl claim free resonance by adding the free ride. IMHO while playing in a conjunto, band, group, ect,ect you will not notice any difference in sound.

The free ride suspension system is just a marketing tool Invented by meinl .It was designed so no holes had to be drilled on drums to put connecting block screws. what happens is that wing nut or regular nut became loose causing drum to become loose and with fiction would crack drums. So this help in that manner.

80% of the time that I play, I do it with bongo stand because I play with others instrument like cymbals, cowbells and Cajon Flamenco.

Off course, when I practice the Bongos in my home I like do it without stand.

I want add to my percussion set a better Bongos that I have right now (Meinl Headliner), for that reason I think that Meinl FB400 Wood Bongo can be a good choice because this model is the top of the line of Meinl, but also I like the Gon Bops Acuna Serie and I´ll want in the future buy the Acuña Series Conga and Quinto.

They are both very nice drums. I used to own a freeride Woodcraft Meinl it was very nice. It was a little too wide for me, but I'm not tall. The Alex Acuna's are also nice drums, I see them in the music store a lot. I would say neither the Gon Bops AA or the Meinl 400 are better. The GB is lighter, as the freeride system has a little weight to it. I would say the Gon Bops is probably be more comfortable for sit down playing.

I don't have any experience with the Free Ride bongos but a friend has a full set (4 drums) of the Floatune congas and you can hear a difference. I don't know if I would say better but they do have a purer sound. Between the rubber wood and the extra steel they weigh a freaking ton.

My biased opinion would be to go with the Gon Bops. Even if Leedy2 has me afraid to take them out of my house here in Ohio

The GB AA is a good Bongó, light weight, solid construction, good sound with the right skins, not made of the very common thailand rubber wood and is assemble in Mexico. Oye Tomás, what about buying a national Bongó made in your home land instead of buying a mass produce like the Meinl ?

En Venezuela estaban los Pan Con Queso. Estoy seguro q deben de haber otros Artesanos locales q pueden hacerte un Bongó superior en calidad y sonido. En Mercado libre he visto marcas nacionales a buen precio en comparacion con las marcas comunes las cuales cuestan mucho mas y son todas iguales.

Tienes razón hermano, los Pan con Queso son excelentes Bongos, suenan muy bien y son piezas artesanales de una calidad muy superior a las marcas que producen en masa, el problema es que cuesta un mundo encontrar a alguien que venda sus Pan con Queso.

Muy de vez en cuando en mercadolibre publican algunos y estoy siempre pendiente para comprarlos cuando se m presente la oportunidad, pero conseguirlos puede tomarme tiempo, por eso en este momento busco unos Bongos de buena calidad que pueda comprar ya.

Recientemente publicaron en mercadolibre una Conga y una Tumba Pan con Queso original y la vendieron en dos días, no me dió tiempo de comprarla
