CALI FROM JCR JUST CAME OUT WITH A NEW BONGO. WE WILL SEE HOW IT LOKS LIKE AND HOW IT IS GOING TO BE THE PROCECTION. REMEMBER IS DIFFERENT WOOD FROM SOME WHERE SECRET.???????

Yes, Julio is correct..
There is a limited production run of new JCR Bongos now
in the works. ( Only 20 for now, with a few spoken for).
These are the smaller traditional cuban size heads / solid lathed
tropical hardwood / mule skins / steel hardware w. cuban style bottom rims.
We will go to larger sizes later in the year.
I've sent notifications to those on my
waiting list from last year... If there are any left they will be available.
Anyone seriously in the market
for a new unique custom set, please send me a private email with your name
and phone #.

Beautiful piece of art. Still does not matter how many pictures of high quality Bongos,superior craftsmanship,better wood ,better skins,hardware,ect, that we post,there are the believers who do not recognize that
thailand made stuff is just inferior.

Suppose you are given a gift certificate for a restaurant.

Will you choose a unique restaurant with a veteran respected Chef ?
or will you go into a resaturant chain, that can be found in every town,

Hi Oz,

The one with the equally spaced grooves
I call the Tradicion Cubano model.
They measure 6.25 macho & 7.75" Hembra.
Great for old school Son / Guitar / Tres or cuatro
accompaniment or any acoustic music.
Very solid and powerful sound, but a sweet
high pitched melodic open on the macho.

Another larger model is The JCR regular model with the nice groove
( I've attached a detailed close-up)
is 6.75" macho / 8.5" Hembra.

This tropical hardwood is lathed from one tree and is very melodic on its
own even before adding hardware or skins.

Either model is for sale now and can be reserved with a 50% deposit.
We don't usually make very many.

Not only are those shells absolutely gorgeous but they also have a very promising bongo sound!!!

Dang, I really wish that I were in the market right now for some JCR regular bongos!

Cali is a dear friend,every time I go up to NY to see my daughter, the first thing I do is take the Bronx bound train to Yankee stadium and stop by Cali's place, a true crafstman. His bongos are standard for the industry and are always in the forefront. I have an old Dominican mahogany from him from early 1980's, as years go by they sound better, made to last forever.

What kind of wood are these. They look ash ? The ones on top look very "criollo". I like what I see. Isaac, give my regards to Señor Rivera, his wife and his helper, who is a great timbalero.

Thanks Dario for your comments... and beautiful pool side photo.
While other men usually are only thinking of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue
usually by a pool, we're lusting after our percussion ! I'll give your regards to Cali.
We're using a very melodic solid lathed Tropical hardwood. I can't yet reveal
our wood source due to competitor's interest in the same. It's very similar in look
to Mango but has the sonic quality of mahogany. The light/amber color will naturally
get darker on it's own over time...just like mahogany. I've become more involved
in the design and wood procurement in the past year. I've spoken with some veteran
bongoceros to find out what they like, and we've added a few subtle improvements.
We're also going back by popular demand to the riveted (plus welded) bottom rims,
for a more elegant look. It's been a labor of love...but alas we need to sell some to keep
the tradition alive circulating among the real players.
