I am happy to share with all of you my personal experience regarding a beautiful drum which is being made for me in Rome, Italy.
The Artisan's name is Don Roberto Evangelisti and the name of his drums is MAMEY. He has been manufacturing hand drums for almost 40 years.
Though his drums are partially known throughout Europe, the fact is that because of limited exposure, very few people know about them here in the States...that is until now.
Thanks to Facebook forums such as "Vintage Conga Drums" this Artisans great work is now being greatly exposed to literally thousands of people throughout the world.
These drums are now finally getting the recognition and exposure which they so well deserve.

My drum will be the First MAMEY ever in the United States, yes, I am happy to say that I will be the first to own one of these beauties here in the States.

The drum is made out of beautifully figured Slovenian Oak

In my opinion, as well as of many others, these drums hold closer than any other, to the true traditional shape of Vintage Cuban Congas, such as Vergara and Requena which have been and continue to be by far the standards for todays modern drums.

It's size is 30" high with a 9 1/2 diameter playing surface, a size which is typically used for accenting while playing traditional Cuban Rumba.

Thank you all for letting me share my joyful experience with you, now, if I could just get my hands on it now! LOL

Some details regarding the construction and hardware of this awesome drum:
The hardware is literally some of the best I’ve seen to date, all Polished Stainless Steel.
The Side plates are .125 thick and the tuning lugs are .312 in dia. The steel backing plates are .125 thick.
.295 thick rolled steel, 6 lug crown, which is standard with all of his drums, this of course helps to relieve the stresses on the tuning hardware. The loops on the crown are .115 thick.
Finally there are the bronze nuts which are .615 long, this is nice because there are less chances of thread stripping due to the nut grabbing more of the threaded lug.
