Thanks Derbeno! I just changed my order with Michel. I changed the order from one quinto, one conga, and one tumba to two congas and one tumba, forgoeing the quinto. Maybe later I'll order a quinto or requinto. According to Michel, the whole set should take about 4 months to make. I can't wait!

I would be interested in the quality and the sound difference between ash, marple and mahogany. Is there any specialist for wood and sound?

Carlito

Carlito, I've played the maple Moperc congas. They were incredibly loud, with amazing projection, that came with the cost of some overtones (ringing). They were a friends drums and I helped him put medium weight mule skins on them which settled down the overtones a lot but left the voice and projection of the drums largely intact.

I think the Ash drums are likely the best choice, this is probably why Michele has continued using it. The Maple drums were also VERY heavy, I'm guessing the Ash is lighter. Although the voice and projection of the Maple drums was impressive it was almost too much volume for most settings, they required a very soft touch.

From what I've heard about Mopercs, you've made an excellent choice.

I've had my cubano ash mopercs for about 4 years now. They are fantastic instruments and the sound continues to improve. Highly recommend.
