Cosmic Percussion by LP Congas (again)

Postby CalvinP » Thu Jun 12, 2014 10:07 pm

Hi everyone

I am a new member here (today). I bought my very first set of congas last week. I am a drummer, and I've found playing percussion is also very fun. I know Cosmic Percussion has been in the discussion many times here. Can someone tell me if I have a good deal on these congas or not? I paid $130+tax at a pawnshop

The hardware are brass and it has some pits from age. The head appears to be in very little playing condition. It's loud and sound good to a drummer's ears like mine (that explains it). Is $130 a good deal for them?

If my memory is still intact, they are 9.5 and 11.5. I've measured them by the outer wood rims, quite the different in size between them. Thanks for the welcome. I also have a burgundy pair of bongos that I bought for $35 that comes with the old strap stand, and they are in good condition as well. I've replaced the small head which's costed me $39 from Amazon. It crack when I tune it high. The head must have been dried up, what should I use to keep them moist? I read here and someone use Shea butter, is that correct?

You definitely need to detune the macho (and the hembra too) after playing!

Thanks Mike, I would never know anything about detuning it after playing. I guess few turns of the nuts just to loosen them enough is what you mean
