Holland meets Germany

Postby godskin » Thu Feb 27, 2014 8:47 am

Yeserday I visited a senior member of this forum.
He only lives 40 minutes away from me, almost neighbours
One of those guys with a lot of quality conga's 8)

With me I brought 2 conga's of which I tought it would be nice for him to play.
We had some coffee, talked and played a little together.

Man those delaports are really nice brother, congratulations !

It was good to meet in person and also to play together.
Lets play some more in the future !

But, the main reason was to check out the 2 Reiche conga's he had for sale.
The 27.5 and 29.5 cm conga's made from African mahogany.
This mahogany is more dense than the Philippine mahogany (luan) the gon bops 3000 series are made of.
Not as dry as Gon Bops but these tubs have a unique true caracter.
The workmanship on these Reiches is great and the skins are top quality.
So, I bought them  Yeah, I am quite happy with them.
The last picture show the horizontal grooves in the staves on the inside of the conga.
Of cource mister Reiche does this on purpose but I wonder how this influences the sound ?

You are most welcome, that was a very nice meeting indeed.
Senior member - hahaha
And your beautifully restored Gon Bops requinto is really cool.
Enjoy the Reiches as much as you can.
Downsizing my "collection" was a good thing for me.Cannot play them all,
and less (well, relatively) is more...
And yes, let´s play together again some time.
Peace & drum

Yes Mike, senior member :D
You should understand I am refering to your forum age.
I hope I dont push it to far when I say, Vintage Board Member. haha

I already enjoy them a lot. Tomorrow I will take them to a workshop and play them brazilian atabaque style.

Thanks king conga.
The looks are stunning indeed but the sound is quite special also.

My other conga's ?

Well
Quinto/ Conga, meinl floatunes, first series (West Germany) with solid greece mules.
Conga is 16 kilos  , of course a lot of it is in the hardware.
Quinto/ Conga, meinl woodcrafts, first and second series.
Reuinto/ Quinto, gon bops 3000 series, restoration project, requinto is finished quinto has about a week to go.

And this brazilian, handmade atabaque kind of drum with very natural skin and carvings.
Made from a exotic brazilian type of wood.

Hey, that is no problem, man, I got you right.
I have been around this forum for quite a while,
so rightfully you can call me a cyber veteran
And in real life I age with dignity just like my vintage drums

And that is a pretty cool drum of yours, I have never seen such a drum before.
Peace & drum
