Obviously the almas must have been installed later, but the wood looks like a different cut of oak, and I don't remember the oak drums having bands. Maybe refurbed? Regardless nice loking set for sure!

There is a good chance they are originals.
I think they look more like from the 90's
probably just before the company closed.
To me the company logo on the drums
indicates they are from the 90's. I know
we have some hardcore Gon Bops people
in the forum that can verify these drums.
I imagine they are heavy on the account
of oak. Nice set.

Towards the end of their tenure in the 90's, Gon Bops started being more aggressive with 6 lugs congas (they never had 6 lugs congas until the end) and with almas, which these have. I think this is a real nice trio, certainly look stronger than Gon Bops from the 70's, which I had a few. I know towards the end, when they came up with the Poncho Sanchez model, they did improve their designs, trying to compete with the emergence of Skin on Skin and Junior, which were becoming appealing to the serious congueros.

The wood looks like it may be ash? Or flat sawn oak. looks a lot like ash though.
