Which do you prefer, to be seated or standing when playing?

I prefer to be sitting because to me it's just more comfortable. However, I have seen Congeros in a band on a stage that will play standing and I think part of it is that the drums seem to project better when off the ground a foot or so. I think the other part of it is that they can get into more of a sway with the beat and even move a little with some steps while standing. The view is a little different from higher up. I used to play Timbales in a band back in the 70's and you seem to make better eye contact with the other members of the band that are also playing while standing ( horns, bass, guitar, singers, etc. ) But as you get older I think that definitely sitting feels better in the long run.

Sitting, those stands just seem like too much to deal with.

seated, in front. Standing for Tims. Traditionally, but it depends on what management wants for visuals. if they're paying you well, and they want you to stand, with a big rig and a bunch of toys, then up you go.

Seated, but find I can actually get a better playing position standing so sometimes I'll put my drums in stands for speed work etc. while practicing.

I don't have to worry about that as I'll never reach that status.
