This nice juicy pair is being offered for sale in "La Isla Del Encanto". Looks like Papo Del Valle congas. Eye candy for sure, this is how I love them. No gold plating , no comfort rims. Give me than Cuban / P Rican Jicamo look always!
I really like these set, I thought it was caoba but is really cedro, wow. I wonder is Papo Del Valle was the conga maker out of Caguas or nearby in the 70's? I had a friend who a had custom set made for him and he told me the person that made the set was out of Caguas.
I have a cedro set of bata, it is by far the sweetest smelling wood I've ever had in a drum. There's still some pitch inside them that is sweet like incense, after I've played them I can smell just a bit of it on my hands. Bigger congas in cedro must fill the entire room with that fragrance
Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana
