I think that one came later on probably like in the 70's,
the shape of that conga kind of resembles an original
LP conga from the 70's. The conga drums back in the
days before LP for the most part were slim. You see
old pictures of the great players you see their
congas are slim. Like so many things here in USA
congas got bigger and bigger. I would not be surprised
if LP congas influenced that Timbas Ismael on that
picture since LP congas were really a big deal in
Puerto Rico in the 70's.

By the way the drum went for $490.00.

The side plate style and shape of this drum is the same style
of the drum in question. The thing is the drum in question
plates are really crude, with bulkier bolts and the part of
the side plates that the lug goes thru are bolted down
vice welded. To me this tells me the drum is an older
Timbas Ismael, the one on the picture here came much
later and is a more refined drum all around.

Here are my current Timbas Ismael from 1974. Bigger bellies than the one in question.

Eso Jicamos estan pelu, Dario. It seems to me that the late Isamel Ramos
really did not stick to one style conga drums, that he really was a custom
conga maker.

That Robert Felcher set ended up with me for a few yrs, ended up selling them. I like my current set out of all the Ismaels I've had.

Same seller as the previous conga now they have what seems to be an oak Gon Bops
drum that needs some love and work.

This second one is a Gon Bops International model from the 70's or early 80's. It seems Matt added the outside bands to it and made and alma for it. Notice he is in Pennsylvania near Matthew.

That drum looks horrible now. It was never meant to have bands ( except on the base ) . Too bad someone had to go and ruin it like that.
