Help - replacing lugs on Performer Series

Postby busyflyin » Mon Dec 24, 2012 1:54 pm

About the best I can get on my Quinto is maybe a C# and then I start straightening out the stock lugs. Can anyone give me some advise.. if I switch out to 5/16 lugs, will the stock plates handle the load if I crank it up to say an E? Please save me the story that I bought crappy drums... I know that! I got a deal on them, now I'm living with my decision to buy them!!! Maybe I need a thinner head?? Any words of wisdom?? What I'm trying to do is tune them up and get some better sounds from the Conga and Tumba while staying a 4th apart.

I think you are worrying too much about what the actual note of the drums are. I don't know what note my drums are tuned to. Try tuning the tumba and conga lower. A 4th apart isn't a rule, and there is no standard pitch the congas need to be tuned to. Tune the tumba as low as it will go and still sound good with resonance, then tune up by ear.

^^^ No doubt I am worried too much. The problem i have is that I know of no other conga player anywhere around me and no one to really help me out. Johnny Conga helped me over internet best he could, but I'm still curious about tuning up. I like your advice and will try that, but I may be at the bottom with it right now. Thanks.

Yes they will work. I have a pair of Caiente series's and the quinto lug's were striped and bent. Brought it off E-bay year's ago as a beater drum project. You looking at $ 10.00 for 1 lug X 5.
