What's the major differences between the Giovanni Galaxy drums and the LP Classics? Are they worth moving to, or should I be content with Classics for the time being?

They're both good drums. Don't worry about it and stick with the drums you have, they're good drums.

What I'm really asking for is a comparison between the two drums. Different wood?

Order both from Guitar center, compare them, and send back the one you don't want. GC is great with returns. I tried the Gio Tumba, and felt the sound wasn't much better than those drums that are a few hundred cheaper. To each his own

the major differences are wood,hardware and sound projection. The Gio model is ash wood,very strong and have better sound projection and less overtones,the hardware of gio's are stronger and will keep your drums tuned,the classic's are good drums too,more melow sound and less projection.

Cannot agree concerning the overtones I am afraid. I once owned a Galaxy ash quinto which had massive overtones (not necessarily a bad thing),
even with a thick mule skin on it. The sound reflections inherent in the ash shells are simply there, especially when you consider the smooth inside of those Gios.

you talking about ring? yes Gio's have lot's of ring,like the classic's,but less overtones

I own a set of Gio Galaxy and Classics, I found that the Ringing in the Gio Quinto is going away the more I play it. Overall all of the Gios are sounding nicer every time I play them comparing to Classics (Classics being older). Like other said, Better wood, hardware and projection and I have the default skin. I can only imagine how good the Galaxys will sound with ticker skin.

You are leaving me confused: Where is the difference in ringing and overtones for you?
Let me try to explain what I meant: when hitting the shell with your knuckles, you can hear that those shell have that singing sound,
you can hear that especially well when the skin is unmounted.
Playing the Gios with skin on, the ringing sound is also there, in particular if the stock water buffalo skins are being used.
Now would you call that overtones I wonder?
Anyway, the source of that slightly modulating, metallic singing sound is just the same, the sound reflections within the shell.

I find that my Classics are brighter with either natural or synthetic heads great for all types of music where higher tones and volume is needed. My Original and now rare non Giovanni Galaxy drums are mellower better suited to smaller conjunto work. The skins are original and have had the ring slapped out of them. The American oak is beautiful and hardware is thicker even the side plates are slightly bigger along with the lugs. Here's a photo of the Galaxy drums up front with the classics behind them. Which do I prefer? They both serve there purpose Thanks for indulging me

How come the new Galaxies, don't look as good as yours?

Thanks everyone. I'm still up in the air about it; the price is good, but maybe I should just save up for a better set of drums at some point.

The newer Galaxies are made out of ash, Doc's Galaxies are made out of white oak.
I have a set of original Galaxy bongos made out of white oak and the sound is superb.
Classics and Gios are both fine drums, is matter of preference at the end of the day
is the player that makes the difference.

Those are not Galaxy drums in the first video... those look like Palladiums.
