Hello Everyone,
It seems like such a very long time since i last posted anything on the forum...afraid all my plans and dreams were abruptly put on hold as my health worsened,so all the dreaming about putting together a percussion set up and travelling to have pro lessons came to nothing :cry:
Must admit it as being hellish hard to convince myself to carry on not only with the latin music aim, but lots of other things to,
But I have for good or bad ,decided I wish to try and achieve something in my empty life.before it really is to late!! :idea:

I read with great sadness the passing of a man,I know was so well liked by so many-TOM ALEXANDER of VOLCANO DRUMS-
I only new what I have read on these boards about Tom.I do not expect is legacy to percussion will be continued in anyway?unless he had a prodegy to carry on his fine work.

I myself as simply looking for the best congas and tibales I can find? I have often read postings criticising certain aspects of even the so called better makes of percussion instruments..especially where it concerns the hardware used on congas e.t.c.
I certainly do not mind paying that bit more to get something which is the best it can be..so if any of you guys have suggestions please let me know..

Must just add,I am awaiting (still)for a large payment from UK Government???!! if it ever arrives,but we can all dream..so what i`m saying is no hurry,
likewise eventually I would love more than anything to set up some pro lessons in the USA or CUBA or anywhere it is felt 2-3 weeks of top class teaching would stand me in good stead for the future?

Tom before he passed said he had an 'apprentice' whether he decided to carry on Tom's work is yet to be seen. I will call Vickie(Tom's wife) and find out ...

Good to hear from you,much obliged to you.But I should have made things clear..I am not in the USA i am in Norway and also I am not ready to buy the percussion pieces just yet,am trying to do as much pre planning as possible for the day I can place an order.
And whilst I am very keen to buy quality items those lovely Volcanos are weigh above what I would be paying....

In the meantime, what kind of congas do you play?
It's good to just start, and not worry too much about the handmade ones.
Keep in mind the average Cuban conguero is playing a substandard conga
and making it sound good. A Matador with a good skin is all one really needs.
Get off the web for so many hours a day, and devote at least one hour
into practicing. It will help you sound better when you get
the dream congas.

Good to hear from you,and good advice.
I do not have any congas at present,thats what my posts have being for,and as I explained(I think) am waiting for pay out?? so thought I may as well buy the best I can..also the room as yet to be finished.I am not able to do any of the work due to poor health.
I freely admit I am not doing this the accepted or correct way..but there have being good reasons for that?
Don`t worry as soon as I can I will be starting..but I do not intend to buy a set of congas and then another(custom) set later
