Thanks for the comments guys, I am in love with this drum, and those few who have seen it are also amazed by it.
I took it along to a farewell rumba/bbq the boys through for me the other day and everyone loved it. Might look at completing the set upon my return from Cuba.

Beautiful drum ... but it's a little small don't you think?

I'm just kidding around, after all, I'm the guy that recently posted the super-tumba pictures.

I do have a question about keeping a pre-formed head like you have there. I've noticed that they shrink over time so as to no longer fit properly. Now maybe the last time I did that I didn't keep it sealed up in a bag. But a few months of storage has caused my pre-formed heads to shrink up several times, so they have to be re-soaked and reshaped a bit when I finally mount them. Do y'all see this problem? I've come to the conclusion I'd rather just have a spare hoop and a flat skin than a pre-formed head.

That's a beautiful drum!

Cheers!
BMac

Most definitely, yes, a premounted head does not really make sense to me with a conga, neither a requinto.

Abakua,
What type of wood is your drum?
I noticed you have the old style hardware on the rims, nice looking.
Did you request the Ritmo logo? Nice touch!
I hope you are enjoying your new toy. More pic's when you get time.

Sorry for the delay, this was posted while I was in Cuba and had missed it since being back..
The drum is Ash. Yes, I requested his original style traditional rims, and also the logo and handle. Its very retro. 8)
It is a screamer of a requinto, absolutely kills at the rumbas. Very happy with it.

Heres a short clip of a Yambu I recently played Quinto on, you can see/hear the Requinto, for the Guaguanco we performed next we tuned it a little higher. Has heaps more in it still.
No footage found yet of the guaguanco, doesnt look like its been up'd yet.
