I´ve seen that drum too.
Wow, the staves look very massive!
Not too bad I suppose. If it were not across
the channel, I would give it a try

Ok . I made contact with a friend who is in Cuba for the next 5 weeks , can anyone confirm the exact model ?
This Drum has lost one of its lugs during its life . Apart from Abakuas sugestion that it is a Tata Guines model , can anyone else confirm . this baby will be singing soon .

Well I fitted a spare lug I had hanging around . and tuned this baby up . it sounds so good .
it has a alma fitted . I was told a Cuban by the name of Picchi Valdez sold it to a friend . he claimed to have got it from Tata Guines , hard to prove but cool enough story . it certainly has plenty of soul .

Interesting . if not a Sonoc it definatly came from Cuba there is a Tumba which was sold and I am now trying to buy to make them a set again . It was sold to my friend in 1995 and has spent the last 5 yrs or so in a Music shop in a local town here in the UK .
I think the wood is Cedro not 100% but looks it to me . Im curious Leedy when did you see this drum before ?
Im sure Dario will be along soon to give his wisdom .
I have been playing it for the past hour and I am in love with its rich rounded sound very old school Cuban sounding , it is quite a heavy drum too .
