My question is specific to the gooseneck mic mounts like these ones.

I want to use something to hold up SHURE SM57 for live performances in Congas and Bongos, Do they work?
And I want to know if those fit into the LP Mic Lug http://www.drumsonsale.com/lp-mic-lug-g ... -3275.html
or I need to use a separate clam or clip? which one?
Or do you think I should go better with the LP Mic Claw

As for the Audix D-clamp mic clips, they are awesome and work well. I use them on occassion with my Sennheiser mics. I must warn you though, about the LP crap, that's exactly what it is.....crap! I can't remember how much I spent on a set of 4 for my LP Palladiums, and another set of 4 for my Patatos, but as soon as I loaded my drums into the car, bam! BROKE! It was a good thing that I had my gig bag with me, I had my Sennheiser e604s with clips, so I used those and never stopped.

BTW! Welcome to the forum and hopefully you'll stay and share some of your experiences with others on here as well!

I like the Idea of the gooseneck too, but what about the clamp that comes with it, is it firm and durable? or I should use other clamp to hold the gooseneck?
Can the gooseneck fit into the LP Mic Lug?

The Audix D-clamp is perfect in itself, it has a tiny vice with a butterfly screw that you place on one of the lugs of the drum and tighten securely. It will hold the whole night, or gig. As for the (LP Crap), I say again, they are extremely prone to breaking. Just one bump on any hard surface, door, wall, another drum etc, and they will break....leaving you with out a mic mount. I don't buy LP crap anymore....just my opinion, no apologies!

The Audix works great though!

I went to Guitar Center to get Audix D-clamp but the people there told me that Audix D-clamp is for smaller size mics not the Shure SM57. The top mic holder does not screws off so you can not put other mic holder and that one is too small for other mics.
I am having different reviews from people all over the web, some say the Audix D-clamp brake easily some other say they prefer the LP Mic claw because is more durable but it is difficult to set it up in every gig and too bulky. I just do not know at this point
I was thinking is getting some goosenecks mic extentions and clamp them so how in the Conga's lug !!!



Any other suggestions?

I had an audix mount clamp break, but i just put the gooseneck in an old LP claw clamp, which I had around cause the upright piece for that one had already broke.

I like this combo of the LP claw clamp and the audix gooseneck... only plastic is the audix mic adapters.

Ohh I know what you are saying.
Where the rod goes in the LP Claw you put the Audix gooseneck.
That sound good, because the rod in the LP seems to bulky and clumsy to handle that is why I prefer the gooseneck.

Hi all

Same here Sennheiser E604 and their clips. Amazing sound and steady grip (even if you have to make sure they are well in place on comfort curve).
I play Bauer now and they clamp perfectly.

Not sure I would trust gooseneck on the long run.. Some headmics have this and after a year or so, they get loose and you always have to adjust them. I assume it might be the same for mics such as SMs which are heavier...

I bought the Audix D-Clamp and the LP Mic Claw and I received them both yesterday Wednesday March 24, 2010.
I have to say that I am disappointed with the Audix Clamp, I really like the gooseneck is thin but sturdy and the mic mount is good but the clamp is really BAD. I know I am not the most delicate person around but I was just trying it on my Conga lug when the clamp cracked, I didn't put much pressure on it I was just tightening it, I didn't even had chance to put the mic on.
In the other hand the LP Claw is really solid and has a perfect grip. The mic rod is big but sturdy enough, it could be better.

I have the audix mics, so the audix thing worked pretty well for me. The clamp part broke on mine almost immediately, but, being an electrician, I put a small electrical lug on the side of my patato series. I used the hole where you would put a stand mount, it was already drilled. The audix flex piece is small diameter, so I was able to use a pretty small lug. I will try to post a pic later, if I can get a cam working. The small diameter migh make it too weak for sm-57 I think.

Now talking about goosenecks you think the thicker ones will hold better bigger mics, and if there is a bigger electrical lug that you are talking about to put those thicker goosenecks?

Here's that electrical lug, you can get lots of sizes. There are also copper ones that look a little more antiqued and rounded. I used these because the copper color clashed with the chrome.
