Sealing inside of conga

I had some beater LP cheap congas i was thinking of putting two coats of tung oil inside the drum. Good or bad effects? Thanks

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4347&p=43885&hilit=fiberglass+inside#p43885The only thing missing from it is that bauer is another company that finishes the inside somewhat with Fglass and that (one opinion quoted not mine since I've never owned bauer's) this gives a 'brighter sound.

Thank's im gonna do it. I did this to my Gon Bop quinto in the early 80's and hand filed a 45 degree inside bearing edge cause it didnt sing like my junior did. I just wanted to here from the other's on this forum cause i trust the opinions here. Frankie.

I just got a new set of Bauer. They have a coat of fiber glass where the inside plates are (just like the LPs). It is mostly for strength I guess and it doesn't alter the sound. They sound just perfect.

When refurbishing my 1970s Gon Bops I appled a layer of fiberglass in the sideplates are
and painted the inside up to the bearing edge with the remaining stuff.
I must say that the sound has been altered a bit, it is a bit brighter than before, another factor being the new heads at first.
By no means bad though - and I do enjoy these babies almost every day.

To my mind, a fiberglass layer could solidify the drum only if it is thick (at least 4mm) and if you realy stand by the wood with nuts. Because i think that if the wood have to split, the thin layer couldn't help anything....
About the sound, I think it could be more bright with more overtones maybe, shure not better.

Hello!
When I got my meinl woodcrafts, the quinto was ringing, not the skin but the body. If i knocked the wood or hardware, the sound finished with that annoying ringy sound. All I did was puting/glued inside the drum pieces of foam and the ringiness stopped. One day foam was gone and Quinto was singing Quintish with no ringiness
Maybe body needs to break in like the skin?
