Awesome! I think mopercs don't get as much credit as they deserve, beautiful drums, Michel is a tremendous crafstman, I wish he was still using the original mahogany he was using.

Congratulations on a great set of drums congamyk. One thing is FO SHIZZLE, nothing beats having a HAND MADE quality Insrtument. What kind of skin is that mounted on them it looks nice?

These skins are steer.
Michel uses very precise thickness for each drum size using feedback he gets from Cuban endorsers.

Acajou is the French word for Mahogany. Sorry I wasn't around here three years ago to answer.

Hey Congadin,

How does your Moperc requinto sound compared to the other drums you've had?

A major difference with my Moperc is I have to tilt it to let the sound out, or else it sounds like an erupting volcano.

My requinto sounds awesome because it is made in Canada. 8)
I find that tilting any tumbadora allows the bass note to sing better.

Another way to ship: if happen to go on a road trip, ask Michel to ship to a Canadian address (even a motel or a courier depot) just across the border.

I went with the salsa club model because of its unique hardware design.
Here are more photos of Michel's operations.

Mike, Originally I wanted the salsa clubs, but in the end went with the Cubanos. The salsa clubs remind me of the Meinl Floatunes, but with a slim design. Man those floatunes were heavy!! You will love the Moperc hardware.

When its time for shipping, be on top of it, his broker is slow, and can hold the transfer down to the US. Michel sends it to his broker, then the broker works up a export with UPS.

I've had a lot of success shipping congas via ground mail. No brokers, no brokerage fees, no having your drums hung up at the border wondering if the broker will ever get to them! Straight to your door for a shipping cost that is a bit less than UPS.

The only caveat is that the package can't be over 50lbs total weight. I had every one of my SOS drums sent to me (in Canada) that way from new york and even the super tumba came in under weight after being packed in a box. I've also sent a few drums to the US that way, never had a problem. Customer gets a tracking number and all is good. Moperc's are heavy, but they'll probably get by just under the wire.

I'll never use a shipping company and broker ever again!

I suppose regular postal service would handle it with as much care as UPS would. I would just use lots and lots of air bags foam or bubble wrap. If you don't already have one, maybe invest in a hard transport case, (but then that might make the package over 50lbs)
