Looking for Oak Gon Bops Quinto

Hey guys, some of you may remember me, I used to frequent the board a couple years ago. I've been getting back into the congas a lot more lately and I'm looking for a third drum to add to my set. I'm looking for a Vintage Oak GB quinto or super tumba. Any condition is fine, as long as there is no structural damage to the shell, splits are ok, I'm willing to put in some work. I'd prefer the older traditional style rim as opposed to the tear drop, but either one is fine really. Let me know if anyone has anything they might want to part with.

The quintos are the hardest to find in oak. I've been looking too, for a loooooong time!
I like the ones without the metal bands, but they are all good. Good luck.

Yeah thats the one, but I kind of gave up looking and bought an Isla requinto instead.
But thats the drum. Real hard to find in that size and style. Let me know what you got going
on it.

These are real nice drums.

These old oak GBs are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better sounding drums than the luan wood (aka Philippine mahogany) versions, IMHO. Much fuller, more well-rounded sound with some bottom that the luan versions lack. A buddy of mine has a set of 3 and my former teacher, Yaya Maldonado, has the quinto in this series and it rocks - really full, woody sound. I used to have the conga (segundo) size in this series and it sounded good even with about 7 splits (go figure). From what I've seen many of these have the same splitting issue as the GB luan versions, and they can be tough to fix because of that horizontal inlay band. I've got an oak GB quinto with the aluminum bands (and no inlay band), and it's a great drum as well (no splits, luckily).

These are mine... 10" 1/4 and 11"

I agree taiko, the oak drums have much more full boddied sound than the Mahogony. I have owned both and prefer the sound of the oak. I'd love to get a quinto or super tumba to add to my pair.

Deadhead,
I do not know if this is right for you, but if you are into the restoration business, there is this vintage couple at ebay for one more day:

But the drums are pretty messed up and need lots of repair.

Just thought it might be an option for you.

Thanks Mike, I was actually just outbid on those. The sizes weren't really what I was after, but I put a bid in just for the hell of it, I may rebid tomorrow, but I'd really rather hold out for the size I want instead.
