I just wonder if not all natural food oils contain vitamin E? I am no expert there.
And I do not know what "4,000 iu vitamin e" is like either.

But if it works well with your mule skins, it cannot be a bad thing :)

One last feedback of mine on the terrific mule skins after 3 months of heavy playing:

They have broken in already and the tones are incredibly CLEAR and ROUND,
with a depth that goes straight into your heart!
Everytime people listen to these mule-d babies, they are stunned.

So all in all this skin upgrade has been the most experimental thing for me so far,
especially with the much-debated skin treatment (Oiling process), but at the same
time the outcome is so convincing that I want to recommend El Greco´s skins again
to everybody.

Just my 2 mule-centavos
& thanks for all the input!

Mike

Thanks for the update. I'll have to take the plunge myself one of these days.

I am a bit confused about the use of Mule vs Steer. Current I have a set of solid shell congas with african cow. The Quinto head is thick so thickness desire is not an issue. What characteristics of either Mule or American Steer would impart to my Quinto. I do have a significant ring and can use some dampeners as describe in previous threads. Would Mule or Steer decrease the ring?

thx, Marcus

Thread revival.
After dicussing this with Mario last year I can tell you that Isla uses a chemical solution to remove the hair from the skin. This process removes natural oils, which are replaced by submerging the skin in baby oil. I guess baby oil is less like a food product and can't go 'off'.
It might be a good idea if your drumskin is particularly dry or lacking in oils for whatever reason, but if not over saturation could be a problem.
Is this soaking treatment used on mule skins because of their toughness?

I do not think so, oil does not make any skin softer, just the feel or grip might seem to be smoother.
