Michael, you certainly were lucky & did score big time!!!
People will normally wait years for a set of Mahogany drums from Matthew. He did tell me a couple of weeks ago he had a set of 4 which he had bought back from a customer, immaculate & sounded amazing.
He still has the other 2 sitting there, Im sure they wont last long.

Conga-tulations. 8)

Chacho! Ese Quinto se ve bestial mi hermano! I am totally out of expendable cash flow, so I guess it's back to the bank for another mortgage loan.....I've got to get more drums from Matt!

Suave!

Onile!

Thanks bro, I cant wait to see it with the actual head Matt has selected for it & complete with the side plates & lugs etc... 8)
LOL @ naked conga! hahahahaha. Good call.

Gracias Jorge, cant wait to take it to its first rumba.

KING CONGA wrote:Hijoesu!!!!!!!! now that is one KILLER Re-quinto. Congratulations Abakua. I love the wood texture. It looks kinda big for a Requinto, is it just the angle of the picture?
Really consider going with the Requena like hardware, you will end up with something even more unique and considering that Matt is making the hardware you can bet that it will not be compromised.
Congratulations, cant wait to hear from you after you play it.

Hey KK, it must be the angle of the shot, it does have a nice belly on it however, it was purpose designed by Matt upon its specific use I plan on giving it. I wanted a screamer 'bell like' requinto for use in rumba, comparsa etc etc.. Matt designed it accordingly, the head size is 9.75"
Ive always been a fan of Matts crowns, with the notch cut out into the ear hoops, I had the option of the requena like hoop which he had a few laying about, but opted in the end to go with his design crown after seeing pics of the drum with both options. I think it gives it a much more aggressive look.

This is a one off, unique drum Matt tells me, there still needs to be some gold leaf embossing done to it also. Matt carefully bookmatched the grain to create the effect, the skin chosen by him is dark and of medium thickness. Bull skin. I am very eager to crank it up and give it some punishment :D

Nice , it'll be interesting to hear your opinions on how your highly stylized scientifically expertly made quinto sounds next to your rough shod rustic cuban drum. I'll bet they both got their own mojo.

Similar to comparing a stunningly smokin mamasita from the Bronx to a sexy brunette outta Manhattan. Both have their charm. 8)
But yes, will be interesting comparing them.

That baby is going to sing. It looks incredible, traditional Cuban look, a la Vergara but much stronger and made to last.

Very nice...the wood grain remembers me of the Gio Galaxy wood grain...but dosnt compare to Ritmos quality and love into it.

i wonder ABAKUA what else does he have to do to it...

i would order an extra flesh hoop, to put a different kind of skin, and hear the difference,a skinthat would give it a more folkloric way of sound of those Cuban drums, and of course keep Matts skin, for that salsa sound.
