Never has someone, with so little, written so much, about nothing, on a continually annoying basis, without proof reading, or consideration of those who just don't give a solid waste product, about the ranting and raving of a self contrived Bastian of knowledge, otherwise known as a useless trivial, opinionated, lonely insurance agent known as "Peggy!"........just when we thought Dr. Z had been vanquished into oblivion, he sends his minion, "E.P."!

What's a girl to do?

I think Ernesto has some good ideas, fix the current flaws that people today seem to ignore. I don't think he is critizizing SOS or Ritmo, he is just saying "how can we make the conga better then it is today?"

Well, he needs to make one then and put it up against some of the aforementioned drums. He seems to be more interested in hardware than drum shape , tone, constrruction, weeod, etc. Until he produces a better model he should probably reserve his comments towards possible improvements and quit the criticisms of tried and true, well respected artisans.

Congratulations rhythrhyme. That is no doubt a great looking combination. SOS are unquestionably and undisputedly some of the best hand made drums in the world. Im hoping to order a requinto sometime in the near future.
as youve already noticed, expect to be hated
Would you happen to know the weigth of the "Big Mama"

Hey King Conga!!!

That's a good question - I put her on the scale and she's just around 29 pounds... hefty, but not unreasonable considering she's made of solid oak. By comparison, my 14" LP Palladium comes in at 40 pounds... anybody want to by a 14" LP Palladium :P There really is no comparison in terms of sound quality, even with the carefully mounted natural cow that I put on the Palladium...

My last handle was Cadenza, I've been lurking since I ditched the previous profile.

Update:

I think the big 14" mama has lost her moustache... and this is turning out to be a good thing! I've been playing her quite a bit, rehydrating the head with oil and frequently tuning it up and down, getting the lugs perfectly balanced etc. With this the head is starting to open up already. She's quickly becoming more and more melodic, the projection is increasing and this is turning out to be a really great drum. Although I loved the raw sound it had initially, the refinement as it opens up is excellent.

Initially I wasn't sure if it would be too large and subsequently not readily able to tune up into the ensemble of other drums. Happily this is not the case at all. The drum just sings and seems to have lots of variation in its tuning (as in I can catch a few different pitches in the drum that resonate really well). It just sounds awesome next to the 13” that I have had for a while.
Cheers,
RR

BEAUTIFULL PICTURES JAISEN, THANKS FOR POSTING.

TRUE REQUINTOS IN CUBA ARE 9" INCHERS OR EVEN BELOW, THE REST IS JUST A QUINTO.
I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE TWO MENTION CRAFTSMAN LIKE TO TEND TO STAY ON THE 10 + DRUM TO CALL IT REQUINTO..

i have only seen one 9" SOS beutifull requinto although it looked like it lost some of it SOS shape on the process of making a true requinto.
