possibly a requinto at the front, but it could be the photo angle making it look smaller.

Yes, that is a comparsa requinto :) .

This is an old thread, I know--I'm Jay's daughter. Jay doesn't really do computers, but he asked me to take a peek at this forum.

Hi people,

Just want to set the record straight. :)

I'm Jay's daughter (Jay doesn't really do computers). Jay has had people working for him over the years for varying amounts of time--including his own son.

However, he has had only had (and has) one apprentice--and that is Joshua Scott (hi Josh!).

Nice to hear from Jay's daughter, and nice to know Jay's looking in on the forum.
It's great to hear from the drum makers themselves.

I called Jay today to see if he got my deposit,
anyways I have to say part of the pleasure of ordering drums from
a maker is talking to them the person making your drums.
Whether thats Jay from SOS, Ralph from Resolution, Mario from Isla or Michel from Moperc
and Matt from Ritmo.

I thought I posted before? One 12" and one 13" in cherry with chrome.

I was also asking about some bata, he wasn't sure if they were going to
keep making them, then it turns out that they are going to keep making
them but haven't sorted the pricing yet.

BNB, so Jay makes them at the actual 12 & 13"? Its not nominal?

Would that be on the center bearing edge or outside measurement?

Its been about 6 or 7 years since I had a set of SOS', so I don't remember.

Nah Tonio, that's nominal dimensions, and what I mean is he rounds up.
He and I talked about that, and dimensions are kind of my thing from my profession.....

and I thought, whoa 13" is a big drum, so I asked him about.

anyways, Jay said a 13" is more like 12 7/8" or whatever, and its from the outside edges,
basically Jay said with the hand made drums there is some slight dimensional
variation in the process.

More Jay Bereck madness, early 90's set Ash wood, black oxide. Incredible sound, old school Cuban style, makes Gonzalo Vergara proud. The tradition continues. Continua La Tradicion. Asi Son Bonko'.
