I'm curious about the age range of all the congueros/aficionados in the forum.

I am currently 27, but have loved the music my own whole life. I just got serious about drums in the last three years. Strictly a hobby player, who is still taking lessons.

From what I see, unfortunately, I see less and less young guys into the music/culture/instruments.

C'mon, no need to be shy, viejos. :D

***P.S. - Admins, let me know if it's a problem that I have this in the bongo section as well. Thanks.

As for me, well I just turned 51 yesterday, Friday (that's 357 in dog years right?)! I've been playing congas since I was 13 and have no intention on stopping!

Adelante!

49 started at 13 on drum rudimets , picked up congas at 20. just got back from a gig, played timbales on this one. Cause' the young ones couldn't play timbales.
There where a couple of young bucks in their 20's on the gig also. And I can honestly say somethings only come around with maturity and especially on congas.

I'm 51, and first learned the Martillo in 1979, but didn't get any
bongos till about 1981. Seeing Johnny Rodriguez in London
inspired me to save for a set of good LP Gen. 1 Bongos.
I had one conga earlier when I was 16.
In High school, before that I played sax and vibes. I still feel like a beginner,
touching the skins for the first time.... That keeps it exciting.
10 years ago I just started on the timbales after
studying with Jimmy Delgado in NYC.

i'm 46 and very much a new comer to conga playing. although it was always a dream to be able to play i only plucked up courage to finally take lessons in last few years! 'slowly but surely' and 'better late then never!'
