Anybody familiar with this guy? I just picked up a couple of his drums, super heavy, well made, need some repair due to some cracks but they appear to be made out of nice oak. I'll post pics as soon as I get my darn camera to synch., I think my son messed up the hardware. (leave it up to a 12 year old!)

Well, I never heard of R. Galvan but I am jealous! Those drums have some character! They look good and sturdy. How do they sound?

PC , take the plate off and fill the crack with a two part polyurethane resin, ( find at home depot) is milky white, i fixed a GB tumba with that stuff and its probably stronger there than any other part of the shell. The rust... you can soak the parts in vinegar overnite and then clean with a plastic sponge; comes right off.

It's hard to tell right now how they're going to sound, I need to replace the heads on both drums, someone put a water buffalo on the quinto (11") and the conga (12") appears to be original, super thick cow, nice feel, but kind of dead. I'll tell you one thing, these babies are HEAVY! I've got two california series gon bops ( new ones made by Akbar and DW) and I thought those were heavy. These babies come in right at 35 lbs. each! OUCH!.

Yeah, re-skinning and repairing are a bit different. Thanks for the info though, I'll probably call Matthew and see what the cost would be to refurbish one of these , or perhaps cali, anybody have cali do any repair work for them? I'm surprised nobody's seen or heard fo these drums before, I certainly haven't but they're definitely high quality, I'm going to re-skin the conga this weekend, the quinto needds a bit more work before I can re-head it.
