How long have the "California Series" Gon Bops been produced? And in what versions/renditions? That is, what changes to that series have been made over the years? Any of them better than others with the same name? What woods have been used in the California Series?

I think they've been made for a couple of years. There is only one version with different finish options available, satin oil, lacquer and custom lacquer. All of the drums are made out of north american quarter sawn oak. Very heavy drums, and very well made.

They have'nt been made very long, Sol was still in business about 3 years ago.
The California series is in it's first edition as far as I know.
It really is a new project for DW.

I could have sworn the California model now sports two GB logo plates (see new GB PDF Catalog on their website).

The first ones that came out had only the standard GB logo. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Suerte!

You could be right, I have'nt checked that detail.

I remember seeing them online when they first came out,
and Haight Ashbury Music down the street from me has
had a CA series, and anAlex Acuna for about a year now.

Guitar Center on Van Ness has had the Tumbao series.

The CA seems exactly the same as everything I have seen along the way, design wise, I'll have to check on the logo plate.

WBB,
I guess your a little late to the scene, I thought you knew..

Sadly Sol is out of business, the owner Akbar is now working for DW and making the California Series Gon Bops.

Thats why the rim looks so similar. Sol went out about 3 years ago. Very sad indeed. The Gon Bops are good drums, no doubt about that, I have seen, heard and played them, but they are not the same level as Sol drums, that I have also seen, played and heard.

The Sol site is up, and there are always rumors that Akbar has old Sol stuff and might be persuaded to make another Sol drum..............but so far thats just a rumor.

You know the Fat Congas site is still up too...

The Sol site does have a lot of good info on it, I think thats why it is still up.
