Anyone know if this is Mexican or Cuban?

What about the wood type?

Is Mexican. That guy Kalunga on Ebay should know better, he is a rumbero and I bought a Cuban Requena quinto from him. Mejicana for sure. Take a look at true Cubans (Vergaras).
Mucho Jicamo !

Besides the bands, what are each of the clues that you look for when descerning the difference?

And could this one pictured be of mahogany?

The crown and the lugplates. I'm not an expert like some of the others, but after seeing enough vintage congas posted I have an idea of what cudan hardware is supposed to look like..

The shape can also be an indicator, I can't get specific here either, but there are definite shapes that "look" cuban..

I think you probably have a feeling for it by now r you might not have posted the question about this drum??

I thought I was starting to be able to make the distinction better, but this particular drum was more difficult for me. It looks to me like it has about the same shape? And the wood looked like possibly mahogany. Oh well, I guess I'll get better at it with time.
