Just bought a re quinto 9.75 and conga 11.5 in the satin oil finish. Wow! Nice drums, well made, very heavy! Haven't played on them much yet, but I'll be giving them a workout tomorrow ( just got home from rehearsal). Our bass player manages a Guitar Center, got them for a great price. Really nice NA oak and great hardware and skins. I think I'll probably purchase a couple more to fill out the set. Anybody else have these? Opinions?

I've got Sol, not to be confused with soul, :;): They're the predecessor of the CA Gon Bop. And used to have a set of the Oak version. They are extremely bright! Sold them when I got the Mahogony versions.
The drums are so solid you could run a bull dozer over them and they'd break the dozer's tracks.
The rims are nice and soft feeling, but really thick and strong. The hide he uses is good and thick as well.
Akbar is a wizard! No question about it!

Alafia Abures!
I hope that you are all well and blessed many times over!

I have owned a set of California Model Gon Bops for a while now, and I think that the construction and sound are incredible! Abure Windhorse is right, Akbar has continued to manufacture a great product, you can tell with these drums.

Here are a couple of pics of my drums, of course I've changed the heads on them as I normally do with all of my drums:

Just curious why you changed the skins?

Akbar / Gon bop uses first class cow hide and the ones I've heard sound fantastic.

Also, is the hardware on these drums stainless steel, or are they chromed?

Thanks!

Hello Onile!
I must end my ignorance and ask... What does it mean Alafia (greeting?) and Abure (friend?)?

I'm checking everyday my mailbox and the package isn't there yet. I even went to post office and ask them if there was any package for me and if they left a note in my mailbox (it would be possible that wind would blow it away) and send it back, but there was no.

Propably is still on the way, I am waiting excited as little kid. :D

I'll let you know!

Keep yourself and the Mighty Tumbadoras GrooveFul!

Gon Bops is releasing a new "Alex Acuna series" priced between the Tumboa and CA series with North American Ash but not much else available. http://www.westcoastdrums.com/gonboalacsec.html . The GB guy at DW said the new website (any day now....1 month ago) will detail the new series.

Alafia Abure (Perfect Peace Brother/Sister)!

I change all of the skins on my drums merely for personal preference. You are right however, the skins that they came with were just fine. I actually gave them to another good friend of mine who mounted them on his LP Classics!

The hardware is steel, not chromed! The best!

Many blessings!

Onile!

Abure GuruPimpi!
Keep a look out for that package, I don't think it should blow away in the wind! I know that you'll enjoy yourself when you receive it though!

Many blessings!

Onile!

Yes, thank you for the translation!

JimG, nice to know about Alex Acuna series, keep us posted with the GonBops wwwsite...

I didn't mean the package, but the note which I can receive, that informs me of waiting package. Our Postman can be lazy, since I don't live in the Urban area, more like country side...

a view from my balcony...
