Hello to everyone,

I'm new to the forum & to congas & my main question is what is the difference between three plys of wood (on the LP's) verses two on the Meinls? The LP's also have steel pins in the staves for additional strength. I've played the LP's & they sound great...but I have'nt heard the Meinls. The prices are very close & in my range. I like the looks of the Meinls but what do you folks think?

Thanks
Luis

Hey Luis---I have a set of Galaxies and am very happy with them. I own other congas but no Meinls. If you have a chance to try both thats what I would suggest. It all depends on personal preference. I like LP products but all drums have their place and it all depends on what your looking for.
Skins make a big difference. The stock skins are good but you can always change your sound with quality products.
Practice is the most important piece to the ultimate sound.
Three ply vs two ply, pins or solid stave are all good ways to build drums. Again its personal preference.
Now your probably more confused

ho

i have a set of mongos. they are great drums. with the white skins meinl used to put on the mongos years ago. sad enough they are not available anymore.
would not change with any other drums.
only technical advantage with the meinlmongos is: the goldplating is more durable than galaxy plating.
but isnt the special edition mongos shipped with chrome? ???
dont really remember.
