I would like to know how thick is the finish and if there is some kind of finish on the inside. The reason I ask is because if the finish is thin, with time the slats may open, as it used to happen with the Gon Bops.

Our brother MaSSiveDrums from here owns a set. They are fukin hot drums. Quite expensive though, I believe the Curly Koa ones start at around $1700 or there abouts. They are custom made on order, not mass produced, pretty much one off models, very rare. Very nice drums.

I have to disagree. The main reason drums come apart is because of two things. The root cause is abuse in different forms. While, dropping a drum may not show right away it the shell never the less and may cause a problem down the line. I think biggest cause in due to exposing the drum to tempeature extrems and humidity changes. If you live in a home that has hot air heat, you really need to keep your drums in a padded case when not being used. Not leaving the drum fully tuned when not being used is important as well. All of this is with the assumption that the drum is made well to begin with. Tom Alexander, who makes Volcano thakes additional measures to insure his shells are strong.
