Hi,

What is the use of the handle in the side of the conga? Can you carry the conga using this handle? My apologies if you find the question funny or silly.

Actually ... you raise an interesting question. Yes, the handle can be used to carry the congas.

My question would be - how many people do? The more you use it the more likely it is to come loose.

I use the handle for short distances but also support the weight with one hand on the bottom or side.
Also, when set up, the handles face me so that I can grab it for quick repositioning of the drums.

Yes the handle is for carrying the drum. Should it ever come loose you can tighten it with a screw driver, or more authentically, a rum drink!

eeeee...i took those bad boys off! if your 'passing' around drums, that handle can bash into the side leaving a nasty mark (no shell protectors for them...). Also picking up a drum, especially a heavy tumba, puts a concentrated load on the staves. not good.

Better to not have them is my opinion. If you already have one and it's not causing any stress to the drum,
than it's fine.

You know, anymore now, quality drum makers; JCR, GonBop, Fats, Volcano Percussion, etc., they don't ruin the craftsmanship of the drum by including the handle. You will see handles with at least GonBops lower end "Tumbao" series though. When you look at the quality of the drum, the beauty of the wood, it makes no sense to ruin it by drilling more holes into it, and as Abure Charangaman stated, it only can lead to more grazes on the accompanying drums!

I normally have my handles (Patato Models), inward, towards me, but always making sure to avoid them bumping into one another.

one last thing, if you do remove your handles, go to the hardware store and get a couple of furniture finishing bolts. The larger head diameter covers most of the handle scar/indent, and they are flush with an allen recess. looks much nicer....

guys,
for short distances the handle can help. yes, i place them also inward. making sure it does not harm the other with nasty marks..there most be a better and easy way to carry your drums!! it hurts when they bump into each other. no question is silly , funny or stupid, my friend efm2!! áche to all always!!!! franc

What an idiot I am, I never thought of removing the handles off of my Patatos, I could use the idea that Abure +Pablo+ posted! Great Suggestion mi pana!
Although I've been very careful with my drums, one never can be too careful can one?
