These are new to me, I don't really understand from the instrument description. Are they Congas or Cajons? Do you sit on them or play as conventional congas? Weird.. But nice looking..

I believe you play the top, as a conga.

I have no clue as well but if I had to guess I would say play like a conga.

They are played exactly like a conga .Same technique for all the tones. Not a big fan of these. If you are a beginner i would get traditional cajon and learn the proper technique.I think these cajonga things are a bit gimmicky. Not bad as an addition to a big set up though.Cheers .Niall.

Cajas/Cajones/Cajitas is what I heard these referred to as; I hear them in most music of Yambu, Palo, Cajon de Muerto etc.
I can't remember all of the names, but I recall each cajita having a specific name... I remember Cachimbo (spelling may be incorrect)...
I own this CD of Cajon Al/De Meurto which wood boxes are most commonly used.Farinas

I have played the cajon from knockonwood that are refered to in the picture. They are like a hybrid of cajon and congas .they do not have the same sound as cajon used in cuba for the variuos styles .The drums you are talking about Ivan are Cachimbo , mula and caja used in palo, macuta .The 3 shekere are also sometimes referred to as this also. Slightly off topic... oh well.

Great .Check out the meinl peruvian cajon on thomann.de.They are selling them at a really cheap price.Especially for you you if you are in England and paying in sterling. The delivery price is also really cheap.I have bought a lot of stuff from them and would recommend them highly. Where are you getting your peruvian grooves from ?

Thanks, those are great prices.. I'm going to order the meinl, I'm not sure about these Schalgwork things.. I know meinl.
I don't own any written material for cajones but have been adapting bongo 6/8 patterns to play along with the Afro Peruvian stuff like Susana Baca and an amazing new band - Novalima..
