Hello everybody,
has anyone who´s into conga drumming tested the low/midprice LP Performer yet? Well, I have bought a quinto/conga/tumba set for my local high school, and I´m quite satisfied. At a moderate price level (200,-€ per drum incl. Stand) these drums offer a good, no a very good sound especially for beginners. Perhaps this set can be compared to Lp´s Matador product line – only that the hardware (also the stands) is not that sturdy. But on the whole: quality + sound seem to fit.
I´d like to share some experiences or opinions by the other congueros around.

Hello Mike

I have the same series of drums, I have had them for almost 2 years now and I am Happy with them. they are a considerable step above the Aspire series.
JC gave a tip that has improved the sound quality.
I loosened the skins and then added some lard (manteca) on the heads using 2 fingers and starting in the middle and worked my way out in a circular motion. keep in mind I just used a little lard, after applying the lard I left the drums out in the sun for several hours the temp was over 85 degrees.
I cleaned the heads with a dry towel and then tuned the heads the sound was great much richer than before. I repeat this about 1 or 2 times a year.
If the temps are too loww where you are you can also use a lamp but you need to keep your eyes on the drums.

I will definitely try the method you mention if that improves the sound.

Plus I´m going to stretch the heads to have the rim lower.
