Hello guys!

I would like to know what can you tell me more than I know about this Tumba, which is hold by one of my participants of my workshop. This pic of Tumba is the best one i have...

I bought it from my teacher who told me this about her:
- made in Cuba
- pretty old
- it was cracked when i bought it...

Can you tell me something more about
- the shape,
- skin,
- possible conga maker
- type of wood (?); it is pretty heavy and hard (similar texture as ash...

Wow what a beautiful tumba...It is most likely made out of Caoba a strong and heavy wood indegenous to Cuba...also used for rum barrels,which is where the "style" of the conga in Cuba came from. It is unique that there are legs built in to the drum for playing standing up. I had a set like them made in Mexico by the great drum maker Louis Zamora. It is possible that if it is as old as u were told it is possibly a "Vergara". The man who put the hoop brackets and hooks, and "alma" on the conga drum as far back as 1947. How did u get it out of Cuba??..and how much did u pay for it?....JC" Johnny Conga...ps...take care of that drum!

Thanks for quick reply.
My conga teacher from 5 years back got 3 sisters as he called them (Quinto,Conga and Tumba) from Cuba. I think his friend send them by a ship. He has renovated the Quinto, Conga and Tumba were sold to me and a girlfriend of mine who were both taking lessons from him.
I found out soon after we healed her

, and even when it was cracked (just a bit) it had a strong, warm and fatty sound, in studio for example, even LP's Classic can get that Cubano sound. If I tell you frankly, her 'voice' is today even better, that's why i'm asking if you know which skin is (if you can tell that?) Is it mule? It is very thick and i agree with Raymond, when he wrote in some thread that he likes thicker skin, me too, much more stable sound and, you know, fat and solid Tumbadora. It goes great together with my Meinl Woodcrafts, she's the earth

I have changed the lugs, cause the old ones had 'polished screws'

How much i payed for it?
Teacher kind of a liked me, and he sold it for 80 USD, cheap MAN!
Maybe it is not some Made by Master Conga, but the sound is Mastering

Do you think that's mule?

Great Price!!...most likely mule skin,from the stomach,it's the thick part. Master, I don't know about that,but I'm not bad, let's just say "I can play!"...Thank you...shooting monday and tuesday for the DVD....beautiful drum...take care of it!..."JC" Johnny Conga...

one more thing!

I got an idea to get the Conga to, i'm becoming a collector know...

I already called this girl who got the sister Conga to check if she still plays and if she is using the Conga. She said she doesn't play no more that much and she'll think about if she will sell it to me, she is also kind of emotionally attached to her.. I am callling her on monday. I hope for the best.
