Well last night rehearsal was cancelled with my 'gringo salsa band' so I finally changed the quinto head (LP classic-custom finish). All I can say is woo hoo!!!!
I had it (united rawhide skin)allready mounted and set aside for about 2or 3 years. This is CCCCOOOOOOWWW!!! :D

he he he, it feels so much better now. The (old water buffalo)head was pretty much goner, but the ol procrastination set in.
PLus I did'nt want to change heads with rehearsal's soon. I don't like to do that, since at rehearsals I tend to crank it up,
wouldn;'t want to do that before breaking them in.

Now to work on the segun.

Tonio,

When I recently replaced my heads, I soaked the skin overnight. That worked well.

Overnight yeowww!!!
Well it has been awhile, but it took about 3.5 hours. since it was mounted on a LP with thecomfort curve 1 rims, it was difficult in some places to pry out the skin from under the rim.
But its been done, and they sound great!! The quinto head needs some breaking in causing some ringing, but it sounds mucho betta!!

About 5 years ago, my sister baught me an old conga at a garage sale. It never sounded too good but was enough to get me playing. I have since baught 2 LP matador congas and play them daily. I have finally gotten around to pulling off all the hardware and gluing/fixing the old conga that got me started. Does anyone know how I should go about finding replacement parts for it? The hooks on the lugs are almost stripped! Also, the conga is 11", Is there a spacific head that I need to buy?
I have seen many congas that look like the one that I speak of. Someone once refered to it as a mexican conga. It is skinny and had 4 steel hoops around it. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
