Not new to drumming but still fundamental on congas. Can anyone reccomend some tunes to play to, I'm learning 6/8, mozambique, guaguaanco, merengue and have tumbao pretty much down but some tunes for that would be nice. I have some Irakere, Santana (lots of!), Buena vista and quite a few compilations, particularly of older stuff, Perez Prado. Tito Puente etc.

Ive looked at this one and I can't work out if it is for percussion like you guys say it is as it seem to be percussion backing for piano and bass to play along to, somehow the text doesn't read right. Or I'm not reading it right!!

Old post - but ... I just got Muy Caliente.
It is NOT for percussion - its for bass or piano. I have lots of albums where I can play along with some other dude.
If you are looking for a CD without percussion you can use for practice ...this ain't it!

Ok the Muy Caliente 'charts' are for the whole ensemble...they tell you on top the rhythm to play and for you to 'follow' the charts to 'play along' with the music..24 26 tunes..I already have them to memory not hard at all really. If you want to 'play along' with some diversity practice/play along to Mongo' s EL BRAVO album...you just have to know your 'rhythmic styles'..

				Thanks JC - will do.
The world could still use some 'minus one' for conga [ie some music with the conga taken out in a variety of styles]. There are a lot for wind, piano, bass etc. I've looked for this but never found it. A small market item for sure, but still a market.
The only example of anything like that is my old Bobby Sanabria video's where he demo's then the band plays sans congas. Only for a few basic son styles if I remember right ... might have to go back and take another look.

				Thanks Niall,
Took a while to find. The LP site has it but doesn't mention his name in the blurb. Had to find it somewhere else to get the book and the name together - but for future reference:
http://www.latinpercussion.biz/dvds/solos.htmlDo you have this BTW? Mostly, salsa, son stuff or other Rhythms?
Thanks again
Darrell
