Cop the bass line, either part of it rhythmically or all of it without getting in the way,but also keep it simple. Congas should always play "around" the bass line and pick up the rhythm from the drummer, or keyboard. Try it and let me know how it turned out...At your Service..JC JOHNNY CONGA.....
Posted: Fri May 24, 2002 10:04 amIf used properly the TUMBAO does the trick. I use it with one of the bands I play in. Make a copy of the country-rock track your doing and practice. Practice makes perfect!!

Did you ever record what you ended up with? I'd like to hear it via mp3. One of my CDs, Afro-Cuban All Stars I think, includes a track with steel guitar--it sounded great.

You may want to try adding a shaker (those egg shakers work great and are cheap too -a couple actually provide a nice weighted feel in one hand) in one hand while playing TUMBAO with the other.
