Hola nuevamente....¡¡ nuevamente busco ritmos de Funk o mas variaciones de funk de hecho ya practique algunos que me enviaron ( Gracias Jhonny ) me gustaria ver si me pueden ayudar a conseguir mas, o en su defecto me recomendaran algunos grupos en donde toquen funk y que predominen las percusiones ...les agradesco mucho y suerte......¡¡¿

Welcome,one of those great funks/bands is 'KC and the Sunshine Band'...I just played a gig in the Rice/Hotel,(Houston),and the band, 'Tony Tabuada's Group',have a few tunes from them,(Sunshine Band), and Gloria Gaynor.Dr. Zaragemca

If you like 60's New Orleans style funk, check out The Meters, with Joe "Zig" Modeliste on drums. This was Art Neville's early band, all instrumental, the Neville Brothers came out of that band. Modeliste plays some really funky drums, late 60's early 70's, the best albums are on the Josie label. I don't know what happened to Modeliste, haven't heard from him since The Meters broke up. Booker T and the MGs, Kool and the Gang, Neville Brothers, Sly & the Family Stone are all more polished than The Meters, but don't have the raw funk that the early Meters had.

Hi Mostro & welcome

I've been playing mainly funk gigs with a number of UK-based 'deep' funk bands - my main gig is with Speedometer ( http://www.speedometer-funk.co.uk ).
On many tunes I'll play marcha or the well known 'What's Going On?' fatback/funk pattern.

It would be well worth you look up 'Bugalu' Velez - he plays for the Dap-Kings in NYC - http://www.daptonerecords.com - plenty of sound and video clips on that link for some inspiration. Or try looking up 'Sharon Jones' and 'Dap-Kings' on something like YouTube.

Funk with congas is my thang, it's what got my journey started with the drum. Here are some great Artists and recordings for killer funk patterns.

What is Hip? & Down to the Nightclub - Tower of Power - Brent Byars congas

Superfly & Live at the Bitter End - Curtis Mayfield - Master Henry Gibson, congas

Cloud Nine - Runaway Child, Running Wild - Can't Get Next to You - the Temptations - Eddie "Bongo" Brown

Loisaida - Groove Collective - Chris "Ifatoye" Theberge

My Brother - The JBs - Johnny Griggs - congas

These are just a few of my favorites, there are 1000's of other examples if you search hard enough. Of course Mongo, Ray Barretto & Candido really opened the door to funky congas as they were big innovators in the "Latin Soul", "Latin Funk", and Boogaloo movements of the late 60's and early 70's.

Songo, Mozambique, Guaguanco, Calypso, are other great grooves to do funk variations from.

I'm still learning myself, but these are some of the things that have helped me along. I hope it will spark some ideas for you.

Here are a few traditional rhythms played over a funky groove I built using Fruity Loops. The mix is terrible, I used the Windows sound recorder, it's crap. I need a REAL mic and recording equipment! With the right feel many traditional rhythms can be played over almost any groove.

Another tip would be to look up the JTQ recordings with Snowboy - "Absolute: Live" is well worth checking out, as is Snowboy's version of the New Avengers Theme (credited as MFOS on the Acid Jazz label).

There's hundreds more recordings from all over the place I could suggest (along with every other contributer here).

A funky piece to enjoy and play funk rhythms to is the Latin Classic BAIA (Barroso/Gilbert) in the Lalo Schifrin cover version. I am arranging this cover version for my percussion ensemble at the moment plus bass (awesome groove!), guitar, vibes, marimba + clarinet - and I can only say - I´m enjoying it !
BTW Baia is on Schifrin´s album "Black Widow"..

I've got Willie Bobo's "Spanish Grease", it's one of the best latin soul cds in my collection! Definitely recommend it! Great Call Papa!

As for Joe Cuba, Jimmy Sabater, Cheo Feliciano and the boys, great era for music tambien!

Take a look at the latin soul and boogaloo reissues from the VAMPI SOUL label - loads of pretty rare gems have been unearthed by those guys.
