Sometime ago 80's I went to a clinic hosted by Billy Cobham ,(monster fusion drummer) and I would like to share something that he called AUDIO VISUALIZATION, and what this entails is changing the placememnt of the drums around in order to hear the sound comming from a different angle, no matter the tunning. So what I have done is apply this to my conga playing, so when I practice I try all kinds of placements and then I pick what I like and apply it on a gig. For exe. With 5 congas sometimes the quinto is in the middle or sometimes on the left, I move them all over the place. You be surprised what you hear.

Hey Olsongo, nice topic. I really admire Cobham, altought I´m not a drummer but I love his records...tell me if you change the drums from the standard possition (let´s sayquinto in front, conga to the left, tumba ti the right, and second tumba deep in front) how do you play if the drums are not at your best reach position, say quinto at your right, tumba in front, etc??? I don´t even imagine how difficult could this be! Thank you, maja...

Mi hermano Atala..., pruevelo.... coloque las tumbas como quiera y obviamente el tambor mas pegado a ti es con el que vas a improvisar sea cual sea, puede ser la tumba, en otra situacion la conga y despues el quinto.Entonces uno ve donde estan los otros tambores colocados y su tono , ya cuando el cerebro grava de donde viene el tono, de ahi en adelante es solo tu creatividad y como quieras aplicar el ritmo. Otra cosa, yo coloco tres tambores atras y dos o tres al frente. con los tres de atras los visualizo como si fueran un tambor, es decir toco las partes que usualmente toco en un tambor; en tres. Es el concepto pizza antes tienes un pan solo , pero despues lo divides en partes.

ey, muchas gracias, songoviejo, jejeje, especialmente por ponerlo en español, es un concepto muy interesante, aunque todavia no entienda las posibilidades que brinda completamente. Espero poder experimentarlo en breve!!!
