Batá Drumming Conference Presentation

Postby KentWindress » Tue Jun 03, 2014 5:03 am

Hi. A while ago I posted some questions regarding the posting of batá toques on YouTube. This forms part of my research for my PhD project. Recently I participated in a conference and wrote a paper based on parts of this research to date. The paper was video recorded and placed on the conference's YouTube page. So I'm posting the links here so anyone who's interested can watch it. This is in part to share my findings thus far, as well as to generate any additional commentary or observations people might like to put forward. The links are:

Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKl2JlZ ... Qze6mW4mw4
Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKsC49u ... Qze6mW4mw4

I look forward to hearing any opinions about the content. This research is ongoing, and input from people who are involved in bata drumming is essential. I think YouTube offers us a great opportunity to see and hear great bata players from around the world, but is it appropriate to upload videos containing aña and toque performance? And how is this going to affect toque performance? These are a couple of questions I'm still grappling with at the moment.

With respect and appreciation,

Kent
