Well my okonkolo has finally been united with it's mother and father, the Iya and Itotele.
These were shipped to me last saturday.
I will be the first to say I have no real clue as to how to play these type of drums yet.
But I love the sound of bata music, and have the best teacher lined up for lessons.
Bata congaplace members can expect a lot of threads with questions coming up.

So what do the bataleros recommend? Should I rope them? Or leave them
as is?
BTW I had my first bata lesson the other day. Very enjoyable.

I spent some time roping these the other day. I used parachute chord.
I'm really pleased with how they turned out.

BNB you should be pleased, those ISLAS look great. it reminds me of when I went to Mario's shop in Gardena, Ca., I seen a roped bata that looked just like yours. Personally I think than any bata looks better roped. Are you going to be adding any of the "Jinngle bells"?

BNB actually took me to a shop in downtown Berkeley where I picked up all the bells for for my Iya $60 worth! They are really beautiful!
Geordie, did you decide to get them from that shop?

I sure wish that I had the Iya to rope them on there!! But that's another story.. Maybe soon!

With your lovely drums and seeing your nice roping job,, I really hate you now! :)
