Making bata-cajones.

I know there are mass manufactured ones out there but I was thinking about building some. The basic construction is straightforward but I wondered if any of you gentlemen had any tips, pointers, on construction or other comments on these instruments from your own experience.

Thanks,
TN

I am going to start a Bata tomorrow I just made a caja in the design from Thomas Altmann which a very strong construction .
Thanks for the guidence Thomas . Ill post a pic when Ive done the finish but in its raw state it sounds pretty mean on the base front.
I intend to build bata cajons in a similar fashon to the Fats . will see how it goes .

No problem, Marco - that was great! With the time I got accustomed to be spelt Altman by Americans and Tomas (without "h") by Cubans, but this one was really far over the bar.

I'm glad you are happy with my construction tips. Actually I'm not aware of any particular design I made. I just went to buy the wood to build a box, and it turned out like this. If I wanted to build a crate or a case for my bongos, I would construct them in a quite similar way. Because that's what "cajones" were made of: codfish crates.

By the way, I have never been to Brazil; so whoever it was whom your friend had met, it couldn't have been me. Greetings anyway!

Thomas

I have no time for dumbuilding, so I would actually be more interested in the "available" ones. So I'd like to know what's available commercially.

I know of the ones by Fat, Etnia, Valter, Cajongo, and soon... Gon Bops. Any others out there?
