does anyone here have current contact information for Felipe Garcia Villamil? I'm curious if he's still in California or if he's moved back to NYC.

last i heard/talked to him was a couple of years ago and he was in LA....you can try him at 323-233-3234, but as you know us drummers are a nomadic bunch...good luck

Felipe Garcia Villamil is one of the several lineages coming out of the great Olu Bata, Blas Cardenas about the fourth generation of Bataleros and Olokun drummers..Dr. Zaragemca

3 reasons, really...

1) the book about him made its made pretty clear he's been navigating the "scene" for a number of years and has some strong opinions. I am hoping to get some advice about his opinions regarding who he'd recommend as an honorable place to study (things are changing and there are some unscrupulous types out there);

2) if he's in nyc, or coming this way, I'd be interested in taking some lessons or at least hearing him live;

3) I understand he also makes a living doing beadwork, making drums, etc and would be interested in his work.
